Demand Grows for World Class Pallet Solutions

Amid all the tales of economic gloom, one British-owned materials handling and logistics supplier, the Whirlowdale Group, is continuing to do well in the present business climate, and has enhanced its service to help its customers in difficult conditions. Whirlowdale is the UK’s leading provider of plastic and wooden pallets and packaging solutions, and has stepped up its already highly successful offering with a new range of plastic pallets, enlarged headquarters premises in Rotherham and an extended network of local service depots across the UK.

Andrew Pearce, Managing Director of Whirlowdale Group, says:

“Our business has developed well over the last 2 years, with consistently improving sales figures. We are seeing some signs of a slowdown in the market although our excellent service and value for money pallets and solutions are continuing to attract a high demand, helped by the fact that our customers cover a very broad range of sectors. We have seen good organic growth in the last few years and are planning some acquisitions which, all being well, will see our turnover increase from around £30 million to over £50 million.

We are working towards ISO9001, so our customers know they can rely on our standards of product and service. We are members of Timcon, BREPAL (the UK arm of EPAL) and are registered EPAL traders.

Our Nationwide service is provided through sites all over the UK, controlled through our Head Office in Rotherham and we have remote sales teams to service customers throughout the UK. We also trade throughout Central and Eastern Europe, Africa, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Consistent pallet supply

We have also invested in our infrastructure, to support our business growth, by doubling the size of our Rotherham HQ, adding new office and meeting facilities, automated pallet repair lines and additional pallet storage capacity. We have added new service depots at Bishop Auckland and Doncaster and have plans to add 3 or 4 more. We also have pallet manufacturing sites in the Midlands, Doncaster and Nottinghamshire, where each site employs between 10 and 20 people, including office and yard staff. We have invested around £1 million into our expansion, and so far this has created 30 jobs, with potentially more to come.
